They are the icon of Niseko's flourish nature.
And, they aren't nature at a distance. In Niseko, nature is present— everywhere.
You can see the mountains from nearly every corner of the town, and feel the forests pressing close.
The air is fresh and clear, and on a cloudless night, the sky reveals more stars than you thought possible.
Hokkaido squirrels and Ezo red foxes sometimes appear by the roadside.
Here, the seasons don't simply change — they awaken all your senses, colouring the landscape in ever-shifting hues.
Niseko's nature and scenery enchant, and attract many visitors.
On the other hand, the proximity and abundance of nature
can sometimes feel overwhelming and harsh to the locals.
Our ancestors lived in harmony
with the beautiful,
yet sometimes violent environment.
Living here has always meant working with the land — not against it.
Writer Takeo Arishima, who with strong ties to Niseko Town,
left behind an important message emphasising "mutual support."
He believed the air, water, and land belonged to no one, but should be shared by all.
In this spirit, he felt that people should take responsibility together, and help one another.
These words and the message
became the source of Niseko's Town Development Plan,
and something the people here deeply value.
Belongs to none,
Yet matters the most,
Niseko's Nature.
We hope you come to know and feel this land,
and the message it carries.
May we
pass it on in its true spirit to the generations yet to come.
This is the wish of
the people of Niseko
who warmly welcome every visitor to their town.
